In Zion cemetery at Old Red Church in Orwigsburg is a memorial marker to the Revolutionary War soldiers on which is listed a John George Huntzinger (1751-1802). The biography of Rev. Franklin Krick Huntzinger on page 488 of the History of Berks Co., Pa.  states that his great-grandfather John George Huntzinger died in 1802. George served in Capt. Jacob Weston's company of local militia during the American Revolution. His name appears on the rolls in 1779 and 1780. the militia remained organized even after the war. Capt. Weston's company has records of meetings in 1783 and 1784.
George was a farmer all his life and owned several farms near Orwigsburg, Pa. In 1792, he had a 168 acre tract surveyed along Briar Creek in what is now fishing Creek Township, Columbia county. It was warranted in 1792. He purchased a warrant for another 115 acres in Catawissa Township, Columbia Co., in 1772. by th 1798, George owned at least four farms in Brunswick Twp., Berks county, totaling 578 acres. Two of the farms had a barn, two had houses and one had a sawmill. Johann George's name was on a petition to the King of England for a grant of land in Schuylkill County on which to build a church.
