GIVN NICHOLAS SURN DUPUIS A MANUSCRIPT BY CORNELIUS E. DEPUY WRITTEN IN 1813 IS RECORDED BY AURELIA D. SCHOONMAKER: NICOLAS DUPUIS AND HIS WIFE CATALINA DEVAUX WERE HUGUENOTS OR ARTOIS WHO CAME TO NEW AMSTERDAM 12 OCT 1662 WITH 3 CHILDREN INCLUDING MOSES. SR. NICHOLAS LEFT PARIS IN 1651 ON ACCOUNT OF RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION. HE LEFT LARGE PROPERTY. SETTLED ON LONG ISLAND WITH THREE SONS: NICHOLAS, JOHN AND MOSES. GAVE HIS SONS A GOOD EDUCATION. THE FIRST TWO, LITTLE KNOWN, REMAINED ON LONG ISLAND 1663 HE WAS GRANTED A PLANTATION ON STATON ISLAND BUT PROBABLY REMAINED IN NEW YORK CITY BECAUSE HE IS ON THE RECORDS THERE ONE BOOK STATES THAT THEY CAME FIRST TO NEW AMSTERDAM (NEW YORK CITY) AND THEN TRAVELED NORTH UP THE HUDSON RIVER TO WILTWYCK, BEVERWYCK, AND RAYCHESTER WHICH ARE NOT THE ALBANY AND KINGSTON AREAS IN ULSTER COUNTY. THE PARENTS LISTED ON THIS DISK ARE GIVEN AS THE PARENTS IN ONE BOOK, BUT THIS IS SAID TO BE UNSURE IN OTHER BOOKS. IT WOULD HAVE TO BE PROVEN.
