Hugues was born about 1070 in France.1 Hugues' father was Raphael Du Puy. He was an only child. Hugues is no longer alive.

GIVN HUGUES HUGHES, SEIGNEUR (LORD) OF PEREINS, APIFER, AND OF ROCHEFORT IN DAUPHINE, PARTICIPATED IN THE FIRST CRUSADE UNDER GODEFROY DE BOUILLON. HUGUES TRAVELED TO JERUSALEM IN 1096 WITH HIS WIFE DEURARD DE POISIEU AND THREE SONS, ONE OF WHOM WAS RAYMOND, COMTE DE TOULOUSE. THE LATER BECAME IN 1118 GRAND MASTER OF THE MILITARY ORDER OF KNIGHTS OF ST JOHN OF JERUSALEM; HE DIED IN 1160. HUGHES AND RAYMOND ARE MEMORIALIZED IN ONE OF THE CEILINGS IN THE PALICE OF VERSAILLES.
