John was born before 1279 in Merston or Tillsworth, Bedforshire, England.1 John's father was John De Morteyn and his mother was Joan Gobion. His paternal grandparents were John De Morteyn and Constance De Merston; his maternal grandparents were Hugh Gobion and Matilda. He was an only child. He died in 1346.1 General Notes
