Mary was born about 1225 in Dacre or Gillisland, Cumberlandshire, England.1 Mary's father was Randolph Dacre and her mother was Margaret De Moulton. Her paternal grandparents were William Dacre and Joan Garnet; her maternal grandparents were Thomas De Multon and Margaret Mauley. She had a brother named Hugh. She was the older of the two children.
