Einion Ddu's father was Kendrig ap Iorwerth Lord Brynffenigl and his mother was Angharad Verch Hwfa. His paternal grandparents were Iorwerth ap Gwgan Lord Brynffenigl and Gwenllian (of Brynffenigl); his maternal grandfather was Hwfa Ap Cynwrig. He had two brothers named Ednyfed Fychan Ap Kendrig Lord and Grono Voel.
