Martin August was born on October 16th, 1855 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, USA.1 Martin August's father was Johann Heinrich Anthes and his mother was Ernestine Raprager. His paternal grandparents were Christian Wilhelm Anthes and Anna Maria Schmidt. He had eight brothers named Jacob William, Henry William, Ernest Emil, George Adam, Frank Albert, William August, Henry William and Emil Arthur. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
