His paternal grandparents were Richard Fitzpons and Maud de Pitres; his maternal grandparents were Ralph IV de TOENI and Judith Alice of Huntingdon. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Walter, Walter, Rosamund, Rosamond and Lucia. He was the second youngest of the six children.
