Rowland was born in 1480 in Hamsfeld,Selsid,Lancaster,England.  Rowland's father was William Thornborough and his mother was Elizabeth Broughton.  His paternal grandfather was William Thornburg; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Broughton and Margaret Bethem.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 64 in 1544.
