John was born about 1738 in Virgina. John's father was Stephen Hughes and his mother was Elizabeth Tarleton. His paternal grandparents were Jesse Hughes and Sarah Tarleton. He was an only child. He died on April 19th, 1774 in Powhatan County,Virginia.-
