William was born about 1158 in Alcester (Aston Cantlow),Warwickshire,England.  William's father was Walter III de Cantelou and his mother was Melette DE DYNAN .  His paternal grandfather was Walter de Cantelou. He had two brothers and a sister, named William, William and Mabel.  He died in 1238.
