James Alexander Caldwell was born on January 29th, 1828 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland and his baptism took place there on March 21st, 1828. James Alexander Caldwell's father was John Ross HUTCHINSON and his mother was Caroline Jermima CALDWELL. His paternal grandparents were John HUTCHINSON and Margaret MEMESS; his maternal grandparents were William CALDWELL and Catherina Hendrika BLETTERMAN. He had six brothers and three sisters, named William Caldwell, Alick Ross Elliot, Robert Faure, Charles Webber, Edward, John Ross, Caroline Isabel, Caroline Maria Georgina and Catherine Margaret. He died at the age of 67 on October 26th, 1895 in Bedford.-
