Hugh was born about 1162 in Duffus Castle, Morayshire, Scotland.  Hugh's father was William de Moravia.  His paternal grandfather was Freskin the Fleming. He had two brothers named William and Andrew.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died in Duffus Castle, Morayshire, Scotland.  He was buried in Church of Duffus, Morayshire, Scotland.
