Duncan Mormaer

Duncan was born about 1035 in Nithsdale, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Duncan's father was Duncan I "the Gracious" MacCrinan and his mother was Sibyl Sywardsdottir. His paternal grandparents were Crinan "the Thane" de Mormaer and Bethoc (Beatrix) of Scotland; his maternal grandparents were Sigurd (Syward) Biornsson and Aelflaed of Northumbria. He had three brothers named Malcolm III, Donald III "the White" and Maelmare (Melmare). He was the second youngest of the four children.
