According to the 1860 Census Marion Co., Iowa, J.C. Deem(46) was living with his wife Martha(40), His son Melvin H.(16), His Son Moses C.(6) and Daughter Clarinda(3). His occupation was Farmer and the value of real estate was $200, and personal possesons $400. His place of birth was Penn; Martha's was Vermont, and the three children were Ohio. Interesting to note that Alva and Charles are not listed, George W. was not born yet.
James Chapman and Martha Ann were married in a religious ceremony on April 11th, 1839 in Medina Co, Ohio. They had three sons and two daughters, and also two children of unknown gender, named Melvin Hasen, Charles M., George W., Annette V., Clarinda, Alva H. and Moses C..
