His paternal grandparents were *Renaud Reginald Seigneur I Courtenay and *Hawise de Donjon; his maternal grandparents were *William De Curcy and *Maud , [Dame Du Sap] D' Avranches. He had two brothers and a sister, named *Robert , Sir, Reginald and Egelina. He was the youngest of the four children.-
