John Washington's father was Ambrose William Willoughby Vinson and his mother was Eliza Ann Singleton. His paternal grandparents were Daniel M. Vinson and Serena Terry; his maternal grandparents were Washington B. Singleton and Mary E. Breedlove. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Charles F., Harley Jack, Nesbert Bun, Thomas Lafayette, William Henry, Electria, Hattie A., Lena Bethel Mae, Mary Cordelia and Meda.-
