Viola E. was born in 1863. Viola E.'s father was Isaac Shoulders and her mother was Nancy Powers. Her maternal grandparents were George Powers and Agnes (Aggy) Gentry. She had three brothers and two sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named James Rufus, Willard, Alvis E., Phoebe Harriett, Margaret M. and Pina C.. She was the oldest of the seven children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Squire A., Charles L., Lucinda and Mary Clara.-
