Francis Norton 
Francis was born in 1606 in Piscataqua,Hillsboro,New Hampshire.1 Francis' father was *Francis Norton and his mother was *Mary Houghton. His paternal grandparents were *William Norton and *Dionisia Cholmeley; his maternal grandparents were *Nicholas Houghton and *Joan Holman or Elinor Newman. He had a brother and three sisters, named *Francis, *Mary, Abigail and Deborah. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Francis , Jr., Abigail, Deborah and Elizabeth. He died at the age of 61 on February 3rd, 1667 in New Haven,New Haven,Connecticut.1 General Notes

From the book Directory of the Ancestral Heads of New England Families, 1620 - 1700, compiled by Frank R. Holmes, Baltimore Genealogical Publishing Co., 1964 (part of Genealogical Publishing Co., 521 - 23 St. Paul Place, Baltimore, MD, 21202) comes the following:
"From Norton, a town in Yorkshire, England. The North-Town. The name of French Origin; ancestry traced to Le Signieur de Norville, who came to England with William the Conqueror. The ancient seat of the family was at Sharpenboro, now a mere hamlet, in Bedfordshire, England. ... Francis, one of the first settlers Wethersfield, Conn.; at Milford, Conn., 1660, thence removed New Haven, Conn., 1662, where he was drowned 1667."
