Lemuel Glymph, son of John and Elizabeth was born Jan. 7, 1795.  He lost his father when only 12 years old and obviously began to assist his mother in the affairs of the family.  The settlement of his father's will indicated that Lemuel and his brothers and sisters were privately tutored.   John's estate was finalized March 15, 1824 and by that time Lemuel had his own plantation.   He married Sarah Kinard ca. 1825 and their first child, Catherine Elizabeth was born May 4, 1826.  Their tenth child, Elenor Alice was born in 1848 just two years before the death of Lemuel.  

Lemuel was a very successful Planter, who at the time of his death, Dec. 5, 1860 was worth more than $50,000.  and owned 58 slaves.    His death occured 15 days before South Carolina seceded from the union.  It is interesting to note that on Jan. 30, 1836, Lemuel contracted with David Ergle to construct a school house 36 feet long, 20 feet wide and 11 feet high with a partition through the middle of the building.   He provided some education for the slave children.  The price for the building was one hundred and forty dollars.  Lemuel was reputed to be a good and kind master to his slaves.  Sarah was strongwilled and not so easy with the slaves.  She is said to have upbraided Lemuel for his easy going way with the slaves. 

Lemuel died intestate.  His estate was administered during the War.  His two elder sons, Josephus and John served as administrators.  His two brothers-in-law,  John M. Kinard and H. H. Kinard executed their personal bonds in the amount of $100,000.00 to secure their faithful performance.
