Jonathan was born about 1723 in Kent County,Delaware. Jonathan's father was Lewis-Lambertus Dewees and his mother was Mary Wheeler. His paternal grandparents were Garrett Hendricksz de Wees and Sytie Lieuwes; his maternal grandparents were John Wheeler and Ruth-------. He had four brothers named William, Hezekiah, Samuel and Cornelius. He was the youngest of the five children. He died in 1777 in Casewell County,North Carolina.-
