Thomas was born in 1740 in Kent County,Delaware. Thomas' father was Thomas Bowman and his mother was Sarah Clark. His paternal grandparents were John Bowman and Patience McKenny; his maternal grandparents were John Clark and Catherine--------. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Nathan, Ruth, Elizabeth and Mary. He was the oldest of the seven children.-
