Hugh was born about 1172 in Of,Great Carlton,Lincolnshire,England.  Hugh's father was Hugh BARDOLF and his mother was Isobel AQUILLION.  His paternal grandparents were Hugo BARDOLF and Mrs-Hugo BARDOLF. He had a brother and six sisters, named Robert, Isolda (Iseude), Juliana, Cecilia, Matilda, Daughter and Beatrice.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.
