Edward was born about 1750 in Frederick County, Virginia. Edward's father was Edward Teague and his mother was Lurannah Sarah Van Swearingen. His paternal grandparents were William Abel Teague and Isabella E. Pennington; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Swearingen and Lydia Jane Riley. He was an only child.
