King Duncan I Scotland 
Duncan I was born in 1013 in Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland. Duncan I's father was Crinan Atholl Thane Atholl and his mother was Princess Bethoc Scotland. His paternal grandfather was Forno Duncan deMormaer; his maternal grandparents were Malcolm\Mael-Coluim II King of Scotland and Agatha Christian. He had a brother named Maldred Earl of Dunbar Lord. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 27 on August 14th, 1040 in Iona, near Elgin, Scotland.General Notes
Malcolm violated the established system of succession whereby thekingship alternated between two branches of the royal family. UponMalcolm's death, Duncan succeeded peacefully, but he soon faced therivalry of Macbeth, Mormaor (subking) of Moray, who probably had a betterclaim to the throne. Duncan besieged Durham unsuccessfully in 1039 and inthe following year was murdered by Macbeth near Elgin, Moray. Duncan'selder son later killed Macbeth and ruled as King Malcolm III Canmore.
