Meredith, or Meredyad, ap Bleddyn. In 1109 Bleddyn began the erection ofthe Castle of Powis, which is about a mile from Welshpool, Wales. Theprincipality of Powis comprised about one-third of Wales in 1069 whenBleddyn ap Cynwyn became its ruler. Meredith adopted the "black lion ofPowys" argent a lion rampant sable in substitution for his father's arms:or a lion rampant gules.
