Walter of Lincoln was born about 1094 in Folkingham, Lincolnshire, England.. Walter of Lincoln's father was Ld. Gilbert of Lincoln Gant and his mother was Alix Montfort. His paternal grandparents were Ld. Raoul of Alost and Gisele of Luxembourg; his maternal grandparents were Hugh II Montfort and Alice Beaufort. He had two sisters named Emma and Beatrice of Gaunt.
