Hawise was born about 1206 in , , England. Hawise's father was Geoffrey FitzPiers IV Earl of Essex and her mother was Aveline de Clare. Her paternal grandparents were Piers de Lutegareshale and Maud de Mandeville; her maternal grandparents were Richard de Clare VI Earl of Hertford and Amice FitzRobert Countess. She had a brother named John. She was the older of the two children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Warine and Maud. She died before 1243.General Notes

(h) She was apparently daughter of Geoffrey FitzPiers, Earl of Essex. The author of "Dunster" suggested that she was daughter, and possibly heir, of William Fleming, but after examination of documents cited in the account of Streatley given in VCH, Berkshire, he now inclines to credit the older view as above. A deed executed by her as Domina Hawise de Mohun is copied in the Pole MS.
