Hugh I was born in 1053 in Vermandois, Normandy, France.  Hugh I's father was Henry I of France and his mother was Queen Anna de Kiev.  His paternal grandparents were Robert II "The Pious" France and Constance Toulouse; his maternal grandfather was Iaroslav of Kiev Grand-Duke. He had a brother named Philip I.  He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-brothers named Hugues "le Grand" de and Hugh Magnus.  He died at the age of 49 on October 18th, 1102 in Tarsus, Cilicie.  He was buried in 1102.
