William Braose 
William was born about 1179 in Bramber, Sussex, England. William's father was Lord William III de Braose and his mother was Maudede St. Valery. His paternal grandparents were William II de Braose and Bertha de Gloucester; his maternal grandparents were Bernard IV of St. Valery and Maud. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, William IV, William IV, Reginald de, Margaret and Margaret. He was the youngest of the seven children. He died in 1210 in Corfe or Windsor.General Notes

William did not accompany King Richard on Crusade but fought with King John against Philip in Normandy (1203/4). King John demanded William as a hostage for his father's loyalty in 1208. His mother Maud refused and the fled to Ireland. In 1210 John prepared an expedition to Ireland. Maud and William escaped Ireland, but were apprehended in Scotland. William the father was in Wales at the time. It is believed that Maud and William were starved to death at Windsor Castle (Some say Corfe).
