Raymond's father was Alfonso II, Prince of Aragon and his mother was Gersende de Sabran.  His paternal grandparents were Alfonso II "The Chaste" King of Aragon and Sanchia Castile, Queen of Aragon; his maternal grandparents were Raimond du Sabran du Cailar and Gersinde(Garsinde Gersende) of Provence.  He was an only child.
