Cynvyn Brenin was born in 0978 in Powysland, Wales. Cynvyn Brenin's father was Gwerystan Ap Gwaithfoed Fawr and his mother was Nest verch Cadell Ap Brochwell Ysgythrog. His paternal grandparents were Lord Gwaithfoed ap Gwrhydyr and Morfydd Verch Ynyr Ddu; his maternal grandfather was Cadell Ap Brochwell Ysgythrog. He was an only child. He died at the age of 45 in 1023.
