John was born in 1244 in ,Eaglesham,Renfrew,Scotland.1   John's father was Sir. John Montgomery Earl of Eaglesham and his mother was Margaret Murray Lady of Bothwell. He had a brother and a sister, named Alan and Margaret.  He was the youngest of the three children.  He died at the age of 113 in 1357.1
