James Douglas "the Black Douglas" Lord Galloway Sir 
James Douglas "the Black Douglas" was born about 1290. James Douglas "the Black Douglas"'s father was William "le Hardi" de Douglas Lord Douglas and his mother was daughter de Keith. His paternal grandfather was Andrew of Hermiston de Douglas. He had two brothers named Hugh Douglas the Dull and Archibald de Douglas. He had three half-brothers named James of Lothian, Andrew of Cresswell and James. He died in 1330 in Spain.General Notes
Killed fighting the Moors in Spain while on this pilgrimage in
Spain.
Fought for Robert the Bruce.
Then led a raid on Douglas Castle, his Douglasdale Estate. (It
had been confiscated by the English).
Disguised as peasants, he & his men defeated the English
garrison. This battle became known as the "Douglas Larder."
Played a major role in the defeat of the English Army at Battle
of Bannockburn.
