Her paternal grandparents were William De Lindsay and Alicia De Lancaster; her maternal grandmother was Ada Baliol. She had three brothers and a sister, named William de, Gilbert De, Walter De and Alice de. She was the oldest of the five children. She had a half-brother named William de.
