Gospatric II was born in 1062 in Dunbar Castle,East Lothian,Scotland.1 Gospatric II's father was Gospatric I of Northumbria Mormaer of Dunbar and his mother was Aethelreda of England. His paternal grandparents were Maldred King of Strathclyde Scotland and Ealdgyth Princess of Northumbria; his maternal grandparents were Ethelred II King England and Alfqifu Elfleda Gunnarsson. He had a brother and three sisters, named Waltheof Earl of, Eldgitha of, Aethelreda of and Aethelreda of. He was the second oldest of the five children. He had a half-brother named Uchtred Fitz.
