Anna was born about 1068 in Constantinople,Turkey. Anna's father was Andronikos Dukas and her mother was Marija Bulgaria. Her paternal grandparents were Ioannis Dukas, Prince of Byzantine Empire and Irini Pegonitissa; her maternal grandparents were Trojan of Bulgaria and Kontostephane. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Michael Dukas, Ioannis Dukas, Irene, Irina Dmitrievna and Theodora Dukaina. She was the second youngest of the six children.
