Matilda was born about 1071 in of,Bramber Castle,Sussex,England.  Matilda's father was William de Braose and her mother was Agnes de SAINT CLARE.  Her maternal grandparents were Waldron de SAINT CLARE and Helena le Bon. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Philip de, William de, Adam de, John de, Miss de (Briguze) and Hortense de.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
