William H. Wilson was close friends to my Logans. The following is what
Aunt Alverlene has told me. William H. Wilson married Rosanna Waits's
sister (she could not remember her name) William H. and she had one son
that died at the age of 12 years and then Rosanna's sister died (the
spellings are a little off but I think we can understand that). When she
died Rosanna married William H. Wilson. And the story goes that
William's arm was shot off during the Civil War. John Henry Logan had
his leg shot off in a hunting accident and the two would get together to
come up with new items to help them with their handicaps. John Henry and
William H. invented a knife and fork combo for William to use as a eating
utensil. The blade on the knife was in the shape of a u and the fork was
on the end and the handle was made out of bone. I know this to be true
because Aunt Alverlene gave the knife and fork combo to my brother which
he stills has. Pretty neat uh ?. Rhonda. Rhonda Rogers

Ron,
I was reading your notes on John Robert Logan and i just found this:
"2d Battalion, Hilliard's Legion, Company C, 59th Regiment of Alabama
Infantry." This is the same company that William Henry Wilson (my
gg-grandfather) served in!!!!! What i was wondering is, do you have or
know of any history of this unit? I'm told that William lost his arm in
the war and i would love to hear more about that and the history of the
unit. I have written to the State of Louisiana and requested copies of
his pension application and the pension application of his wife Rosa
Waits. I'm hoping this will give me more information. Murray
I just found out from the Confederate Pension Application of William that
he was born in Monroe County, GA. This is big news!! Now i can start
looking into the census for that area and time. Also, "I was shot &
struck with a mini ball on the left wrist breaking & shattering the
bone". "I have lost my left hand from the effects of a shot from a
minnie rifle in the battle Drewry's Bluff about April 1863 causing
amputation about halfway between the wrist & elbow". Drewry's Bluff is
on the James river in Virginia. It's just south of Richmond. I will
have the full text of the application posted on my web site in the next
few weeks. Have a great day. Murray
P.S. the signature of M. B. Waits and J. A. Waits are on the application
as his witnesses
