"WILLIAM HENRY TAYLOR.
William Henry Taylor and family stood at the head of society. Mr. Taylor
was possessed of every quality that it takes to constitute a moral,
Christian gentleman. He was a leading member of the Methodist church and
a strong supporter of the same. Mr. Taylor at one time was very wealthy,
but about the year 1849 he engaged in a perfectly legitimate cotton
speculation, in which he lost the larger part of his fortune. The loss of
his property did not have a tendency to detract from his moral and
religious life. He died as he had lived, honored and respected by all who
knew him. His wife was the sister of George W. Hails. They had a large
family of children. The daughters were noted for their beauty and
accomplishments. One of these daughters became the wife of Albert Elmore;
the other the wife of Col. John W. A. Sanford. " (1)
