INFO: According to an article in the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy,
Volume 28, 1990, an examination of the early records of King George
County, reveals no other Sullivan in Brunswick Parish besides Darby
Sullivan (d. 1729) and his wife, Elizabeth Snowdall. This supports the
belief that this Darby Sullivan was the father of Darby Sullivan of
Stafford County, VA. who was born in the early 1720's. The area in which
these Sullivans lived was in Brushwick Parish, King George County, until
a boundary change in 1777 placed the land in Stafford Co. It may be
important to note that in King George County the name of Darby Sullivan
was sometimes interchanged with "Owen Sullivan" as is clearly shown in
the King George County Inventory Book 1721-1744, pp. 130-131 and the King
George County Order Book 1721-34, p. 37. Darby's name was evidently
"Darby Owen Sullivan" or "Owen Darby Sullivan" which may indicate a
relationship to his contemporary, Owen Sullivan of Caroline County, VA.
The inventory of Darby Sullivan, recorded on 7 August 1729 indicates from
the items listed that he was a tailor by trade.
