Application Number: 01985. County: Hood. Husband: Sears, Vincent F.
Husband's Application Number: (None given, which most likely means he
died before he made a claim. Latet note: Before I sent off for her
pension application I did not know when he had died. Ron Bridges)
In the Matter of the Application of Mrs. Lucretia E. Sears, Widow of
Vincent F. Sears. Application Pending in the County Court of Hood County,
Texas. August Term, 1899.
Answers and depositions of the witness L. A. Pitchford to the
accompanying interrogatories propounded to him in the above cause.
Answers of the witness: To the 1st. int. the witness saith: My name is
L. A. Pitchford, I reside in Parker County, Texas, age 50.
To the 2nd. Int. the witness saith: I know Mrs. Lucretia E. Sears. I have
known her all my life. I first knew her in White County, Georgia, and
moved with her to Texas in 1867. I knew her then in Hill County, Texas,
for about three years, and then in Parker County, Texas for a few years,
and in Hood County, where she now resides.
To the 3rd. int. the witness saith: I knew Vincent F. Sears from my
earliest recollection in White County, Georgia up to the time of his
death in July, 1863. He was the husband of Lucretia E. Sears.
To the 4th. Int. the witness saith: My understanding is they married in
White County, Georgia in 1852. She came to Texas in October 1867. (1)
To the 5th. Int. the witness saith: I never saw said Sears in the army,
but I know that he was gone from home, and it was generally known and
said that he was in the Confederate service in the 52nd. Georgia
Regiment. To the best of my recollection he entered the service about
March 1862. My understanding is that he served in said army from his
enlistment until his death in July, 1863. I lived in the same community
that his wife lived in, and I know these things from general report. I
know nothing about what kind of soldier he made, but heard no bad reports
about him.
To the 6th. Int. the witness saith: I have stated all I know about his
service in the army in my answer to the fifth interrogatory. I did not
serve in the army as I was too young.
To the 7th. Int. the witness saith: I have stated all I know about him as
a soldier in my answer to the 5th interrogatory. I understood that he
died on his way home from the surrender at Vicksburg. (signed by) L. A.
Pitchford.
