His paternal grandparents were John Logan and Margaret A. Davidson. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Brady Washington, Roy Buel, Ratio Ewert, Carrie Arel, Zora Elizabeth, Ruel May and Edith Chloe. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
