"Seneca W. Culver born July 27, 1823, died June 11, 1853, in Montgomery,
Alabama, overcome by gas fumes while cleaning out a well. He was married
to Mary (Arnett?) before 1850. They had one child, Alice J. Culver who
was born the year her father died, 1853. In the census of 1860, Mary is
shown as a dress maker, with her daughter, Alice J., Lucinda Sharp 30,
probably her sister, and Jemima Arnett 57, born in N. C., who was
probably her mother. Mary was born in Georgia and is shown as being worth
$1350.00. His great nephew told me of the well incident - Mr. Nathan
Culver of Birmingham, Ala. No further record." (1)
