Her paternal grandparents were James Matthew Bell and Susan J. Brantley. She had eight brothers and a sister, named Rufus Edwin, Allen Lamar, Arthur Terrell, James Aubrey, Grover Levon, Earl Winston, Leroy Maxon, Infant and Freda Mae. She was the third oldest of the ten children. She died at the age of 21 on December 27th, 1932 in Repton, Conecuh County, Alabama.
