Ann was born about 1802 in Treecy, Llangarren, Herefordshire, England.¹ Ann's father was JOHN BARRETT and her mother was SUSANNAH MATHEWS. Her paternal grandparents were JOHN BARRETT and MARY HUGHES; her maternal grandparents were WILLIAM MATTHEWS and SUSANNA BENNETT. She had three brothers and four sisters, named WILLIAM, James, John, Catherine, Sara, Eliza and Susan. She was the second oldest of the eight children.
