Renaud was born about 0931 in Reims, Marne, France.  Renaud's father was Herbert II Comte De Vermandois and his mother was Liegarde Of The West Franks. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Herbert "The Elder" Comte, Robert Comte, Albert I "The Pious" Comte, Luitgarde, Sprota (Adela) and Adaele Comtesse.
