Andre was born about 1050.  Andre's father was Hildouin IV Hildouin IV de Montdidier Count of , Count of Montdidier/de Roucy and his mother was Adelaide de Rheims a. He had four sisters named Adelheid, Felicitas (Felicie), Marguerite and Beatrice.  He was the youngest of the five children.
