Ela (Adela) de was born about 1164 in Lewes, Sussex, England. Ela (Adela) de's father was Hamelin Plantagenet , 5th Earl of Surrey and her mother was Isabel de Warenne , Heiress of Surrey. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Geoffrey, William de, Ida, Maud Plantagenet de and Suzanne Plantagenet de. She was the third youngest of the six children.
