Joan de was born in 1261 in Hedingham Castle, Essex, England.  Joan de's father was Robert de Vere , 5th Earl of Oxford and her mother was Alice de Sanford , Heiress of Great Hormead.  Her paternal grandparents were Hugh de Vere , 4th Earl of Oxford and Hawise de Quincy; her maternal grandparents were Gilbert de Sanford , Chamberlain to the Queen and Lorette la Zouche. She had three brothers named Robert de, Alfonso de and Hugh 1st Baron de.  She died before November 23rd, 1293 in Lewes Priory, Sussex, England.

‌Joan de and William de were married in a religious ceremony in June 1285 in Surrey, England.  They had two sons and a daughter, named John de, Griffen and Alice de.
